WHAT IS A GERBIL??? Isn't it like a hamster?
A gerbil is a small mammal. Gerbils are typically between six and twelve inches (150 to 300 mm) long, including the tail which makes up approximately one half of their total length, they are social animals, and live in groups in the wild. Hamsters and gerbils are NOT really like. Gerbils live in groups while hamsters live alone. The hamster and gerbil also differ in appearance. The gerbil has a soft tail, and enjoys standing on its hind legs. The hamster has no tail. Another big difference between the hamster and gerbil is sleeping patterns. Hamsters are nocturnal, and will spend most of the day sleeping. The captive gerbil is diurnal, and thus will not disturb one’s sleep by shuffling or digging around in a cage. The captive gerbil is more up for play during the day, while the hamster may not be quite as happy to wake up and play. Both the hamster and gerbil can be gently raised to not bite. However, the hamster is a little more prone to biting.

What do I need for a gerbil?
A nice size aquarium (or cage) 10 or more gallons for your pair of gerbils
A large bag of bedding
Gerbil food mix (fiesta etc)
A wooden house (any work. these are made so they can chew on it)
A ceramic food dish
a water bottle that can attach to the cage
A wheel (silent spinners work the best and are the most quiet)
Chewing sticks (any kind)
Optional
A carrying cage (MUST HAVE IF YOU ARE GOING TO TRANSPORT YOUR GERBIL)
tubing for your cage
hamster ball
ball track (completely not necessary)
toilet paper tubes (they love them!)
Air freshener (sometimes you need it, sometimes you don't)
Remember to wash your hands after touching your gerbil(s), cleaning the cage, etc.
